Chocolate Scones
For chocolate lovers.
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold butter
1 cup plain yogurt
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup walnut halves or pieces
Icing:
1 cup icing (confectioners’) sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 tablespoons milk or light cream (approx.)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
- In food processor bowl, add flour, cocoa, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whirl to mix together.
- Cut butter into chunks and add to food processor. Whirl to cut in until mixture is crumbly.
- In a small bowl beat the egg, add yogurt and vanilla. Add to food processor along with walnuts and whirl to combine.Whirl about 10 seconds to knead.
- Remove dough and divide in half and place on a floured surface. Roll each piece of dough into a ball and pat down to a circle about 3/4 to 1 inch thick.
- Cut each circle into 6 triangular pieces (like a pie). Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake at 400 degrees F. for 18 to 20 minutes. Remove to a rack and let cool.
Icing:
- Combine ingredients and mix until smooth, adding enough milk to make it spreadable. Spread over tops of scones.
