Chocolate Scones

For chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

Chocolate Scone2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cold butter
1 cup plain yogurt
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
3/4 cup walnut halves or pieces

Icing:
1 cup icing (confectioners’) sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
2 tablespoons milk or light cream (approx.)
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. In food processor bowl, add flour, cocoa, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whirl to mix together.
  2. Cut butter into chunks and add to food processor. Whirl to cut in until mixture is crumbly.
  3. In a small bowl beat the egg, add yogurt and vanilla. Add to food processor along with walnuts and whirl to combine.Whirl about 10 seconds to knead.
  4. Remove dough and divide in half and place on a floured surface. Roll each piece of dough into a ball and pat down to a circle about 3/4 to 1 inch thick.
  5. Cut each circle into 6 triangular pieces (like a pie). Place on an ungreased  baking sheet.
  6. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 18 to 20 minutes. Remove to a rack and let cool.

Icing:

  1. Combine ingredients and mix until smooth, adding enough milk to make it spreadable. Spread over tops of scones.
