Sweet & Sour Red Cabbage

A great holiday side dish.

Ingredients

Red Cabbage2 tablespoons butter
5 cups shredded red cabbage
1 cup chopped apple
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

  1. Place butter,  cabbage, apple and sugar in a large pot.
  2. Pour vinegar and water over. Stir in spices.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender (about 45 minutes to an hour). Makes 6-8 side dish servings.
